Naoussa Clock Tower
The symbol of the city since 1895
The Clock Tower, or simply “The Clock” as it is widely called by the locals, has been a symbol of Naousa since its construction in 1895 in the city center.
The structure was donated by the industrialist Georgios Kyrtsis and stands approximately 22 meters tall, including its small dome. Inside, there is a wooden staircase giving access to the clock mechanism, followed by a metal staircase leading up to the bell, which rang to inform the residents, as at the time of its erection it was the only way most people could know the time.
The tower has a hexagonal plan and is made of stone, divided into four levels with distinctive symmetry. The original clock mechanism, from the English firm J. Smith & Sons, is still preserved today, simultaneously moving the hands on three clock faces. This famous monument from the late Ottoman period of the city stands next to the Town Hall of Naousa.
